The League to Save Lake Tahoe came up with the famous slogan “Keep Tahoe Blue” back in 1973 , when the saying was first printed on a bumper sticker to raise awareness about water clarity in Lake Tahoe , the second deepest freshwater lake in the U . S . which straddles the California/Nevada border . The organization has been dedicated to restoring and protecting the environmental health of the Lake Tahoe Basin for decades now .
