The Kit
The NPT, end to end.
Northville → Lake Placid · 138 miles · central Adirondacks · 8–12 days
The Northville–Lake Placid Trail is the longest wilderness footpath in the Northeast and nobody talks about it. 138 miles through the central Adirondacks — Silver Lake Wilderness, West Canada Lakes, Cold River, Long Lake — with fewer road crossings than almost any other long trail in America. You'll walk past thirty beaver dams. You'll ford water you can't rock-hop. You'll get bitten.

The Story
This is an ultralight kit, built around a Zpacks backbone: Plex Solo tent, Solo Quilt, Arc Haul Ultra 50L, rain shell, rain kilt, sun hoody. Every piece chosen for ounces, not for bravado. A chair goes too — 138 miles is not fun without one — but it's a 17-oz reclining chair, not an 8-lb camp throne.
The rest is Northeast-made: pad and chair from Dover, NH, socks from Northfield, VT, food bag from Biddeford, ME, and a bug balm made in Lake Placid itself. Go after the black flies (late June) and before the hunters (mid-October). Wear the rain kilt when the trail turns to brook.
