About this piece
Built for safely hauling an axe that is so important in the north-woods. Inspired by the norse bearded axes of olde, our Boreal Axe Sheath is handmade from heavy duty harness leather from S.B. Foot Tannery in Red Wing, MN. After being cut to shape by a hydraulic press and hot-stamped, the kit goes to our sewing and finishing floor, where the leather welt is bonded between the two facing sheets and sewn together using our industrial sewing machines and heavy duty thread. About the artist
Christin Fargo started Frost River in Duluth in 2002 with a single sewing machine and a belief that gear should outlive the person carrying it. The company now employs 40 craftspeople in a century-old building overlooking Lake Superior. Every bag uses Martexin Original Wax canvas — milled in New Jersey since 1838 — and SB Foot Tannery leather from Red Wing, Minnesota.
