American Basin American Basin is a high alpine basin surrounded by vertical cliffs with elevations ranging from 11,300 to over 14,000 feet at the peak. It is well known for its spectacular summer display of alpine wildflowers such as Marsh Marigold, Parry’s Primrose, Colorado Columbine, Owl’s Clover, Larkspur, Monk's Hood, Sneezeweed and Old Man.
