Winter Snowfall  In the winter, many forests become quiet and peaceful, with a thick blanket of snow. Snow insulates the soil underneath, protecting plant roots and microorganisms from extreme cold and temperature fluctuations which can prevent damage.  A variety of issues are impacting snowpack. Rising temperatures mean warmer winters. Snowfall becomes unpredictable and also turns to rain -  reducing snowpack. Snow melts earlier in the year, leading to reduced water availability during spring and summer.  This impacts the health of a forest, potentially leading to an increase in wildfires....
